About This Experience

You check in at Gatorland, get fitted with a helmet and harness, and sit through a safety talk from the guides who lead the course. Then you climb the first tower and clip in. Over about 90 minutes you ride five zip lines, the shortest around 230 feet and the longest over 500, launching from towers up to 65 feet high and reaching speeds near 30 miles an hour.

The lines pass over the park's Cuban and Nile crocodiles and finish over the alligator breeding marsh, where more than a hundred big gators lie below your feet. Partway round you cross a swinging bridge that needs good balance and a firm grip. When you unclip, your all-day Gatorland admission is still valid, so you can catch the shows, the petting farm and the splash area afterwards.

The rules matter for families. Riders must be at least 36 inches tall on the listing, weigh no more than 275 pounds and fit the harness, and children 8 and under must be accompanied by a participating adult. Gatorland's own zip line page gives the height as 37 inches, so measure a borderline child against the higher figure before you book.

This is a hot, physical activity with climbs up tower stairs, and the towers and stairs are out in the open. Book a morning slot, confirm your zip time before you arrive, and wear closed-toe shoes. If a younger sibling is too small, one adult can ride with the older child while the other stays in the park.

The zip line experience was amazing. I felt very safe at all times due to the safety advice and checks from the staff at each of the ziplines. The views below as you glide over each of the gator pits below is amazing. The rest of the day was taken up going around the park. The park is filled with gators which you can see up close. You can even buy food to throw to them and then watch the fight ensue as the climb over each other to get to it. There is a Gatoroo show which is made fun to watch due to two members of staff playing dumb (You got to watch it to understand). This show allows you to see that gators can jump a fair height. There are numerous other animals at the park including snakes, exotic birds (which talk back to you if you’re lucky), Capybara and a petting zoo. I also enjoyed the actual Florida swamp area where you can walk along a wooden walkway and encounter snakes, spiders and even some snapping turtles. There are also first aiders continually walking around the park.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum age for the Gatorland zip line?

There is no minimum age, only a height rule: 36 inches on the listing and 37 inches on Gatorland's own page. Children 8 and under must ride with a participating adult.

Can a parent watch without zipping?

Yes, a non-rider can watch from the park, since the course passes over walkways and exhibits. But children 8 and under need an adult who is zip lining with them.

How scary is it?

The towers reach 65 feet and speeds get close to 30 mph, so it is a real thrill. Guides run a safety talk and checks at every line, and a grandparent whose grandsons were 11 and 14 said the rules were clear and the mood was fun.

What should my child wear?

Closed-toe shoes are required, and skirts and dresses are not allowed. Tie back long hair, secure glasses, and leave loose items in the included lockers.

Do we still get into Gatorland?

Yes, all-day admission is included, so you can see the shows, the petting farm and the splash area before or after your zip time.
