Silver Springs Orlando: Small Group Manatee Season Day Trip

About This Experience

A driver-guide collects you from one of six pickup points around Disney, Celebration, SeaWorld and Universal and drives a group of no more than 14 north to Silver Springs State Park near Ocala, about an hour and a half away. Park admission is included, and the rest of the day at the springs is yours to plan.

Most families build the day around the glass-bottom boats, which have run here since the 1870s. Kids kneel at the glass and watch fish, turtles and eelgrass over the springs, and in the cooler months a manatee may drift underneath. The boat ride is included only if you book that option; otherwise you can buy tickets on site, or rent kayaks, canoes or paddleboards and head down the Silver River, where the park's wild monkeys sometimes appear on the banks. Shaded trails and boardwalks fill the gaps.

The honest caveats: this is transport plus free time, not a guided tour of the park, so you pay for most activities yourselves and need some cash. The listing mentions up to five hours at the park but its itinerary shows about 3.5, so ask the operator what to expect. Children under 6 may need a booster seat, which you arrange with the operator, and manatees are wild and never guaranteed.

This fits families who want a gentle nature day without renting a car, and small groups who like a flexible schedule. It is not suited to wheelchair users, and families who want every activity included or a guide explaining the wildlife may prefer a guided kayak tour instead.

Round-trip transportation from Orlando alone was worth it! Jerry transported us safely. You can add a glass-bottom boat tour of 30 or 90 minutes. Paddle boards, single or tandem kayaks, or a canoe can be rented for 1 or 2 hours. There's a paddle river that feeds into the larger Silver River. Abundant wildlife!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the glass-bottom boat included?

Only if you book the option that includes it. On the transport-only option you can buy boat tickets at the park, where the standard ride lasts 30 minutes and runs through the day.

Will we see manatees?

Maybe. Manatees use the Silver River mainly in the cooler months, roughly November to February, and a few reviewers spotted them outside that window. They are wild animals, so sightings are never guaranteed.

Do young kids need a car seat?

The listing says children under 6 may need a booster seat and that a rental is available. Contact the operator after booking to arrange it.

How much time do we get at the park?

The description says up to five hours of free time, while the itinerary lists about 3.5 hours at the park. Ask the operator when you confirm pickup so you can plan the boat ride and lunch.

Is it a guided tour of the park?

Not really. The driver-guide gets you there, points you in the right direction and brings you back; inside the park you explore on your own.
